Namaste! (naam-aas-tay)
This beautiful Sanskrit word means "salutations to God within you!" Offering salutations is one of nine techniques for achieving union with God (yoga) by cultivating loving devotion (bhakti).Master writes, "we could divide bhakti yoga into three stages--"gouni" or initial, "madhyama" or middle, and "para" or the supreme. Gouni, the initial stage, is a preparatory stage where there is an attraction toward the path of Truth and inquisitiveness about the details of worship and rituals. Blind faith, a crude form of love, a fanatic outlook, hating of others' opinions and believing one's own ideas alone to be true and all others to be incorrect predominate during this initial stage. Taken universally, this is crude, partial and fanatic; taken individually, such people's progress in what they believe to be true is often stupendous because of their exclusive devotion to one book or set of principles. If the devotee does not stop until the highest is reached, there is every possibility of a change in his outlook when he develops from the initial to the middle stage. At that point, he tolerates others even though he may not accept them. He hates not, but loves all as creatures of one God. He comes to know that Truth has various faces and various approaches. When he reaches the "para" or the supreme stage of bhakti, however, the devotee realizes, "Truth is one; the wise call it by various names." (Essence of Bhagavad Gita and Bible, p.102.)
At the age of eleven, Sadguru Sant Keshavadas--whose name roughly translates as "Saint who is Servant of the Lord"-- had a divine mystical experience. Since then, he has travelled far and wide to deliver the message of One Loving God Whose Names Are Many. The villagers in his birthplace of Bhadragiri thrilled to the song sermons (abhangas) and wise discourses of the youth. Later, his spiritual family of friends and devotees in Bangalore tearfully sent their "singing saint" to the West, the Caribbean and Europe, Russia, even the Vatican where he had audience with Pope Paul VI in 1967. (Guruji, as he is called by many, tells of that meeting here.)
The charismatic master criss-crossed the globe over twenty-five times, scattering rare gems of loving wisdom wherever he journeyed. Accessible and compassionate, many, many people can attest to lucky lives irrefutably changed by some blessing he bestowed or revealing word he spoke at just the right moment. He leaves a priceless legacy of inspired hearts turned toward God all over the world, as well as writings, videos and tape recordings pointing out, in his unique style, a clear path to God-union.
Guru Mata Keshavadas, the President of Temple of Cosmic Religion, and many devotees touched by this supreme teacher (Sadguru), are delighted to share their divine friend with you. May your lives also be richly blessed by satsanga--association with Truth--as practiced and revealed by an extraordinary master.

Guru Mata Keshavadas, successor to Sadguru Sant Keshavadas writes (Sadguru Sant Keshavadas delegated the responsibilities of his mission to his wife, Rama Mata, and empowered her with the Guru lineage. A devoted disciple-servant since her marriage, and considered by many in her native India and others around the world to be a saint in her own right, this humble woman is now called "Guru Mata" and vows to continue Guruji's divine work. The following is the first of "Mother's Messages" written after the unexpected mahasamadhi of her beloved husband on December 4, 1997.) Dear devotees of God and Guru, God is Guru. Guru is God. God comes and takes the form of a human being. He comes on earth disguised as a human being. He should be just like us. He takes care of us. He talks with us. He plays with us. He sits with us. He eats with us and is just like us. But we cannot see the depth of his spirituality. Only the Guru can give us the eyes to see his depth. People ask "Where is God?" God is very near to us but we are unable to see Him. Just as eyelids protect our eyes, God protects us on every side. But we cannot recognize Him because of our ignorance; our veil of maya is so thick that we cannot see Him. How can we destroy this veil of maya? By chanting bhajans (devotional songs) and mantra, doing seva (service) to God and Guru, and by dhyana (meditation), japa (repeating a Holy Name) and tapa (sacrifice) we destroy this veil. But the best way is by chanting the Name Divine. When the veil is destroyed, the heart will be clear and we can see God and Guru. Guru's grace must be upon us. I understand Guruji's greatness even more now that he is not here physically with us and offer myself for his seva only. Om and Prem, Rama Mata |
